We've been alerted by a number of very angry local residents about a very curious practice by our local council.
It seems that if you are more than 45 overdue in your rates, you might expect to receive a summons from the City of Wyndham, with the added bonus of having to pay $450 in extra costs, or else face an appearance before a Magistrate for yet more fees.
In these tougher economic times, especially in our mortgage belt, we at first thought this was a callous and cruel joke, but it appears that this is actaully happening. According to one ratepayer in Wyndham, as noticed today in the Point Cook Banner letters section (page 9), who was a recipient of the notice of demand, there were another 50 recipients in his estate alone.
We are planning a request for a please explain to your local council officials, but if this has already affected you, please contact us and we'll add your situation to our growing list of unhappy ratepayers.
I wonder if anyone at council remembers that this is an election year?

They are accessible only to local
people, which is a great way to sell some goods (how do you really sell
a fridge on *Bay?), very safe, but also a great way to meet & get
to know other locals with similar interests.
You can list in a whole range of categories, including Garage Sales, Pets (lost/found, free to good home), Goods for Sale, Wanted to Buy etc.

Over the past 12 months I have had the privilege to work
beside a very dedicated group of people who have given up a lot of time and
effort to make Point Cook and Seabrook a much better place to live and spend
time with family and friends.
Some of the issues that have haunted us as residents over
the past 12 months and earlier, with some that still are causing concern is
traffic and roads, essential services, as well as environmental and landscaping
issues.

So What's The Difference Between Registration & Membership? Well actually, not a great deal.
- Both give you access to a great comunity website full of community news, information, and events.
- Both allow you to post your thoughts, comments and questions on the 'Your Voice' Forum, where you can raise community issues and discuss with other like-minded people.
- Both will give you access to an electronic copy of 'the Point', emailed directly to you every month (that's right, we are going monthly again).
- Both will allow us to email information directly to you about topics that you've expressed an interest in.
The main difference is in the extras. |

Update on contract for Forsyth Rd lights Also as a result of the meeting between Lynne Kosky and representatives of Wyndham, Hobsons Bay Council and representation from the PCRA, additional funding was approved on the same day from Spring Street for the long awaited signalization of the ramps on the northern side (Melbourne bound lanes) of the Forsyth Rd overpass. These lights will hopefully be installed and in operation in the first quarter of 07. Not before time if you use the freeway access on a regular basis. |

Good Question. It's an interesting tale, really. A bit like taking a visit to your Auntie Sheila's house for afternoon tea. Why not take a look around?

Of course, you can still download the membership forms off our 'Downloads' page, and mail them in to us.
